BLOODHOUND progress report

partial eclipse
You thought I'd never get to this, right? I'd just tease and tease . . . Well, I will, but the idea of a good tease is to offer something first. But only a little something because I have to keep writing, yes? Yes.

It's over a year since we last saw Beka--it's autumn, after a not-so-great harvest. She's an official Dog, but it's not all skittles and beer as she had hoped. She's just been given the gate by her fourth partner.

You heard me. The fourth.

Okay, the first one died in a summer plague. That could have happened to anybody. But she arrested the second herself. The third, well, she offered him violence for personal reasons. And the fourth--she was just too eager for him. So now she's back with Goodwin and Tunstall, as she always is between partners. Not that they're complaining. She isn't even complaining, not really. But she lost money on this partner. She'd bet she would last a month, when the smart money said it wouldn't go even two weeks.

And Tansy just got caught by her baker passing fake silver coins. She isn't the only one, so he let her go (after charging a fee and humiliating her), but the very fact that a baker is testing silver coins points Beka, and the Evening Watch Dogs, to a growing problem. Someone--several someones--is passing false silver coins into the capital's economy. If word gets out to the majority of the population, prices will go up, just in time for winter. With food already tight, it could mean disaster for the city's poor, and the country's poor.

The Evening Watch Dogs form a team to hunt down the source of the false silver coins. They seem to originate in the Lower City's gambling dens. They're hunting quietly, picking up gamblers and questioning them, when the riot breaks out . . .

Oops. Gotta go!

So so mean :)

Am really looking forward to it when it comes out though.

For a while I read Amazon as saying December 2007 - I was very excited.

Oh well I am sure that patience is good for me somehow.

I wish it were--it would mean I was done! ::sigh::

Gloating aside, I hate to be late on books. I like to make fans happy almost as much as I like torturing them!

Eeee! I really liked Beka, the difference in style and voice was cool. I will be excitedly waiting for the next book!

(Um, hi. I saw your lj linked in I've been a fan of your books since I randomly grabbed Wolfspeaker off the shelf for a book report in 8th grade. I'm soon to be graduating college, so, yeah. Glad there is more to come!)

I vowed after Tricksters Queen I would only buy series' when they are completed because I tend to finish the book the day I get it and then hate waiting for the next installment.

College does cut into your recreational reading time, it's true. So very sad. This may explain why my grades weren't as good as they could have been.

Oh, great tease! I really enjoy reading about Beka. Now the unfortunate waiting part really sets in.

I'm hoping to console myself with Melting Stones. Do you know when/if it will be available through iTunes? (I have a gift certificate that I would like to put to good use.)

Oh, that's evil. I hate having to wait for the next book in a series to come out! I usually tell myself I'm going to wait to read the series like this until all the books are out, but most of the time, I give in. I have no self control...

Aiyaa, so exciting! Poor Beka, going through four partners, but yay for repartnering with Tunstall and Goodwin cause they're just too awesome! The counterfeiting sounds interesting. I like your crime plots.

Can't wait for more! Please don't tease us too long!

Evil teasing woman- how we love you! I'm so excited that you're taking on the counterfeit issue that was briefly touched upon in "Terrier." It's a crime that's widely regarded, particularly in developed nations, as a victimless crime when that couldn't be further from the truth. And I'm not at all surprised that partners are having a hard time keeping up with Beka- not everyone is as hardy as Tunstall and Goodwin. :D

I'm also hoping that sometime in the series the slavery question (as well as the difficulties in abolishing it) come more centrally into the picture. And more lady knights! Demanding, aren't I?

Ooh, this puts me in such a happy place! Thank you so much for the teaser!

>>It's a crime that's widely regarded, particularly in developed nations, as a victimless crime when that couldn't be further from the truth.<<

Tell that to the folks of the Lower City whose bread prices just doubled. Or to the poor S.O.B. who thought he had $20 and now has nothing.

>>I'm also hoping that sometime in the series the slavery question (as well as the difficulties in abolishing it) come more centrally into the picture. And more lady knights!<<

Well, I know--but that would be telling.
