December 17, 2011: WE HAVE A HOME FOR MOUSTACHE! Thanks to everyone who expressed interest and spread the signal--she gets a family for the Yule holiday!

edited to add: if it doesn't work out, we'll take her back. We don't want her homeless or in a shelter!

The guy who helps us keep house is just as big a mushball for cats as well are. Unfortunately, he is up to his limit with 5 cats. He knew about this girl, one of the cats in the area around his yard, and when he saw her developing a little football belly, he brought her straight to us. She isn't feral like the other cats he keeps an eye on, so she came along very willingly, and because we already have a houseful, she's been living in our mud room. She would VERY much like a forever home and family of her own!

For obvious reasons, we've named her Ms. Moustache (pronounced the French way, moo-STASH). If you live within driving distance of Syracuse NY and can convince me you will take care of her and can keep her on a permanent basis, she is yours. She has had her shots, and she is spayed. Something happened to her tail, so it isn't as long as she would like, because you know she's the kind of sweetie who would love to wave her tail in the air!

She is just adorable! Sadly, I am also at my limit with 5 cats (one of them with major medical issues). I hope you find her a great home; she looks like a lover!

My goodness she's beautiful! I wish I could take her, but I'm stuck in an apartment that doesn't allow cats for six more months. :(

Any idea how she is with other cats? I live a couple hours from Syracuse, have been pondering getting a 2nd cat for about a year, but my current cat has been lord of her domain for 5 years, and I don't know how the two will get along.

Well, she was running/living with another stray who Andy (the mushball) kept for himself. If too much more time goes without our finding a home, we're going to have to release her into our general population anyway. She's not at all aggressive, though, and she's much younger than your cat, who's already in the house. (That makes a difference.) I should mention up above, if it doesn't work out, we'll take her back.

I need to run this past my fiance/housemate before making any commitments. He left town yesterday and is gone all week on business. I'll try to catch him online this afternoon or evening, but if you get any more promising nibbles before I get back to you, go ahead and go with them.

I take it there was a litter from the football belly?

I've consulted with the fiance (and with Peanut), and we won't be able to take in a 2nd cat. Every time I have myself convinced that another cat is a good idea, Peanut does something to remind me how much of a people cat she is, and that she would not appreciate the competition for attention. She spent the evening following me around like a puppy dog, and is actually licking my knuckles as I type this.

I'll print your post out and bring it to work on Monday. Hopefully one of my coworkers will be able to take Ms. Moo in.

cats are also, generally, easy enough to introduce to each other~ females are a LIL harder, but it's still do-able.

I'd take her if I could, but I don't live anywhere near NY:\

I wish I could, but the whole "living in another country and in a province nearly on the other side of the continent" rather makes that not so feasible.

What a face!

I am neither in NYS or able to take another cat, but I will happily pass this along to my Capital Area and Western NY friends. That's a cat that needs snuggles.

(Snuggles from a forever home, that is. I am sure she is getting an overabundance of snuggles currently!) ;)

Ohhhhh I'd take her if she could come to Ireland; sadly I expect that's impossible.

This is a year and a half too early, or I would take her. Unfortunately, I live in a college dorm where we aren't allowed furry friends. :/ Once I graduate I'll be looking...

I hope she finds a forever home.

I'm a VERY long way from Syracuse, alas. Else I'd be onto you for her. She would match well with my other two black-and-whites...

Tammy how do you deal with the feral cats in the area? I'm in Syracuse as well and we have four adorable 5-6 month old kittens living in the parking lot / wooded lot behind the apartment building. I'm worried about them in the winters we get here!

Hope you find a home for this pretty girl!

We put a dish of tuna in a Havaheart trap and we trap `em! We tuck them in a small room like the bathroom with the trap up off of the floor (they're going to be scared and whizz)(we use bricks) until we can get them to our vet or to SANS--New York Spay and Neuter, who will de-flea/tick, spay/neuter, and I think give them their shots. Also, if you like, I can have my assistant tell you how to build a warm habitat for them so they have a place to stay out of the weather! Message me if you're interested!

Hi! Two things: A) may I have the instructions for the warm habitat? We have two outdoor boys that we feed and water. Have finally gotten them petable, but not nearly trusting enough to be trapped. B) I'm only a couple hours away from Syracuse and could possible help out with Miss Kitty up there! Do message me and let me know!

Which would you prefer, for me to put the instructions up on my lj or e-mail them to you (Cara did them with illustrations, which means I can't put them in a message)?

Are you seriously interested in Ms. Moustache? She's such a lovely thing, and now that someone unloaded two kittens on our porch Sunday, we have to find homes for them as well as her, and you know kittens will be easier to place than even a year-old cat!

Perhaps on your LJ so that everyone can use them and you're not stuck emailing 500 people? It might prove useful, especially if you post to cat_lovers!

And yes! Much like you, we rescue cats, but we have our "residents" as well. Terri Anne is 6, and we've had her since she was about 5 weeks old. Thats with several military moves and civilian moves as well. We also have her 4 year old daughter, Baby Cloud. A rescue Tuxie named Ada, and her 2 year old daughter Nommers Squeekybutt. Then we have Darla, who is the one we have had the shortest time, just since this summer. But she goes nowhere. She's also a tuxie. I have a fondness for them. :-p

My cats (and gerbils) have their own Facebook that is often updated with pictures, if that is any sign of my devotion to them. (A better sign might be that their food budget weekly is higher than mine. Ha.)

I work in Watertown, which is only (brb mapquesting) *ahem* 1hr15m away from Syracuse. :)

PM me if you want to get into details.

Hnnnngggg, she is the cutest thing. :3 If I didn't live in another country... Though I wouldn't be able to take in another cat anyway, because I already have four. But every time I see a cute face in need, I can't help WANTING to take it in, even if I cant. :< I hope she finds a good home.

Hi Tammy,

Lovely kitty, wish I weren't in WA. However, you might try contacting the tumblr blog FYeahFelines. (http://fuckyeahfelines.tumblr.com/) The blog is dedicated to sharing photos of cats, but will also share stories similar to yours, where there's a cat in need of a home. From what I've seen, there's a pretty high success rate of homing cats due to the large "follow" pool.

I hope this helps!

I'm not sure about Tumblr yet, trusting my fans more than strangers, but if it comes to that, I'll give it a try. I want to follow this route first!

Okay, so my dad knows someone who might take her. I live in MI, but would be willing to make the drive to pick her up and take her over to them. However, I'd only be able to pick her up early January.

I'll keep you updated.

Thanks! I'll keep trying to find a more local home--the thought of you driving here from Michigan in January makes me wince!

I'm living in Long Island and I'm from Michigan and might be going home for a visit in Jan. If you don't find a better sitch, let me know and I might be able to help!

I'm sorry. I would love to help, but our cat has FIV, so it's not a good idea, as much as I would love to have all the cats in the world. I hope your furry friend finds a home soon.

No, I do understand. You might see about finding her a friend who also has FIV, since you're already set for one cat.

I just referred your kitty-situation to a friend of mine, Luca, who lives in Tivoli. She is awesome and I'm sure she would be a very responsible and loving caretaker. I know an LJ comment isn't a very professional way to do it, but please consider this my "character reference" in case she contacts you! :) And in any case, good luck, I hope Ms. Moustache and the kittens all find wonderful homes soon.

I can take her
If you still have her to give, I would love to take her. My family loves to rescue cats :D

You can email me at: landersmarieb@gmail.com for more information about the sort of home she'd have. I live in medina NY so coming to get her is no problem.

Also, if you still have those kittens, I would be happy to take one of those as well. It didn't look like you'd found a home for anybody yet.

When you email me, I'll give you my number too :D

I hope to hear from you!

Re: I can take her
Thank you so much! We do have a home for her--she goes there tomorrow! And my resident adopted niece is threatening to find a place next month and take the kittens, the cat she came with, and one of our reclaimed ferals with her.

If things change, I will surely let you know--thank you so much for offering!
