The many real faces of Rosie the Riveter

mr peepers
Check out these cool pictures of the women who took up factory work in WW II, doing men's jobs to free men to fight. Nobody said then that women couldn't handle the work!

My granny worked in a military communications factory in WW2. We are lucky enough to still have her ID from the factory.

Those are amazing!

I have a sticker on my hard hat at work of the iconic Rosie the riveter with the phrase "We can do it!!" It gives me such a boost when I'm having a particularly hard day.

Tammy, I think you'd like this interview between my father and grandmother - a Women's Airforce Service Pilot. http://soldiersandcivilians.org/interviews/anna_monkiewicz/

Just wanted to let you know, I have been a fan of your work for a very long time. Wild Magic was the first book that I ever read willingly when only a year before I was illiterate (grade 3). I don't know if I ever would have become anything approaching literate without your works, or even gotten past elementary school. You literally changed my life. Without you, I would not be where I am today, living my dream, in Japan.

So, thank you for giving me courage, thank you for giving me literacy, and never forget that you have changed lives.

Also, if you ever come to Japan? I owe you a dinner somewhere nice. This reminds me, I need to hunt down a Japanese copy of Wild Magic.

Don't suppose you could send Tris over to us in Japan to keep the nasty China smog away?

Anyways, thanks.

Han

P.S.: Here are your titles in Japanese, you should post some of the Circle cover art to your page. It is AMAZING. Well, compared to some of the newer US cover art... it's not that hard.

Those really are lovely - I wish I knew what books they are! I cannot even guess what this one is サークル・マジック―ダジャと炎の絆 (ルルル文庫) [文庫] (I just copied and pasted, for all I know it could be the price and publisher!) but it looks freaking awesome!

In order on the amazon page they are:

Trickster's 3
Trickster's 4

Looks like they count these as an extension of the Alanna series as they are titled "Daughter of the Female Knight Alanna" (I can't spell today, sorry)

Next are the first two Alanna (SORRY! I can't remember how to spell her name, katakana is no help).

Then Part 1 of Trickster's? ----アリーの物語---- Is the Japanese title for Trickster's but it looks like they may have split it up into a quartet, I am not too sure. Ok, they did split it into a quartet. Probably for continuity of form?

Then Alanna 4 and Trickster's 2.

The final four should be obvious. Those four have the best cover art ^^ I wonder if there is Circle doujin?

These are great! I love how much a sign of the times it is that every hair is in place, every face is made up and all nails are polished.

Though I winced at the lady working on the engine with a ring and bracelet on. Not safe! I saw a guy lose his finger working on trucks with a ring on. Though that was probably normal for the time and that aspect of safety awareness hadn't caught on yet.

I think some if not all of these are publicity pictures, and they let the ladies glam themselves up a bit before they took off the jewelry at least and got back to work. I'm sure the makeup didn't make it to quittin' time!
