New Year and food for thought

Happy 2014, everyone! I'm wishing you a year of good books, excellent (non-fattening) food, good movies and music, good health, cheer, fine friends, and as little political aggravation as possible (which may be the hardest wish of all to fill). The good books--well, I'll be posting the books I liked from the last year soon, so that might help in your selections at the library and book store. Good movies and music, you're on your own, since my taste is a bit left-field.

I resolve to be a bit better about posting here. It'll be a quieter year in terms of travel, so I'm in hope that I'll get in more writing, including on my LJ. The only exception will be the month before and a little after the Christian Easter, when I will be in AUSTRALIA!! with my Spouse-Creature. We'll be in lovely Melbourne first, then we hie ourselves to Perth--a new stop for both of us. I am in hopes that, at some place, I'll be able to buy myself some genuine Australian opals from their home earth--no triplets or doublets, but the complete thing!

Other than that, I mean to work. I've got several projects, including the completion of the Companion Book and EXILE, so it will be a busy year. May you all share the blessings of the gods, and see good things come through your doors!

If you have any time in Melbourne spare I highly recommend the Melbourne International Comedy Festival as a entertainment - it's on about the time you'll be here.

Melbourne? OOOOH! I may need to find excuse to visit the other half if you are doing any events.Personally I HATE opals, but I can understand why people like them. If you want the real real deal though you need to go to somewhere like Cober Pedy where they actually mine them.
Perth is lots of fun - but I would suggest (depending on the time of year), getting a flight to Broome. Its AMAZING. Also gorgeous gorgeous Pearls.

Can you please come to Adelaide? Pretty please, you're going to be going straight over the top, why not stop for a day...

Agreed!!! It's on the way from Melbourne to Perth, and it would be so cool to meet you.

(unless it's Just A Holiday... wouldn't want to interrupt that! Good luck with finding opals, either way.)

Australia is crazy gorgeous! If you can make it to King's Canyon it's got some of the loveliest red-rock landscape I've ever seen, and the hands-down prettiest oasis -- it's out in the middle of the desert, in the same general area as Uluru and the Olgas. I hope you guys have an excellent time!

You're coming out to Melbourne? Is there an event you're attending?

Happy New Year, Tammy, and happy travels! (Also happy writing, of course.)

You will most definitely be able to get opals! Melbourne mostly has cruddy ones at the touristy places, but I think Perth might be better for proper ones. I will, however, have a look around Melbourne CBD when I'm at work next and might be able to give you a shop name or two.

Also... I live in Melbourne, so I really hope there will be some point at which I can meet you. Because I owe you roughly a kazillion thank yous for so many things, like Rosethorn and Lark's relationship.

I don't know whether you'll be in an area to witness this, but my brother was able to watch penguins coming up the beach when he was in Australia a few years ago. (I think the penguins do this each night; there are some species that live in Australia, not just in Antarctica. There are places where they arrange for you to observe this.) He found it quite an amazing experience. Enjoy your trip and make sure you pack lots of sunscreen.

Augh, I live in Perth for ten years and you'll finally be coming here two months after I leave! Do try to visit the Swan Valley or Margaret River while you're here.

Gah! Your so close to New Zealand! Aussie has snakes... And poisonous insects... And snakes! Big nasty poisonous ones! And like, crocodiles and toads and stuff! You and your spouse creature should come to New Zealand... We don't have any nasty stuff like that. We have kiwis! And you know... Kiwi birds too.. And Tuataras! There as old as the dinosaurs... And me! Im pretty awesome, plus theres Kauri trees and beautiful scenery and flightless parrots and stuff.... You should come over, since your so close... *tries really hard to hypnotise through text...* gosh darn it!

On another less annoying fan woman note... I do hope you have a really great time!!!

A little sad I'll be missing your visit to Australia because I'll be over in your usual half of the world. Last saw you in Melbourne a decade ago! How time flies.

(Also, if you don't mind me asking, what ever happened to the Go Fund Me campaign? It randomly popped into my head the other day and seemed like it fizzed off... I'd love to hear what it enabled you to accomplish.)

Happy New Year to you, dear! I hope that you have an awesome year, and I hope that you get to go on your great Go Fund Me trip!

Also, whilst in Melbourne, please can you get a picture of yourself with Kerry Greenwood, so I can squee about having my two favorite authors in the same picture? :D

Just as I move to Sydney to start life as a poor student (from a very small semi rural tourist town) you come to Melbourne - so close and yet so far :(((((((( maybe next time, I suppose.

Ooh, Australia! Are you doing any events in Melbourne?

The Supanova website says you are attending their Gold Coast event in early April. Is that correct?
